Contract QP cover that kept batches releasing through a sudden gap

When a growing UK importer lost its Qualified Person at short notice, certification and supply were suddenly at risk. We stepped in as contract QP and RPi within days, kept batches releasing without interruption, and handed back a sustainable governance model.

Challenge

A UK company importing and distributing licensed medicines lost its named Qualified Person at short notice. With no QP in place, batches could not be certified and consignments could not be released, putting both supply continuity and patients at risk. The company needed credible, accountable cover immediately, not after a lengthy recruitment process.

Approach

We onboarded quickly as contract Qualified Person, and as Responsible Person for import where the supply route required it. The first priority was a fast but thorough review of the Pharmaceutical Quality System, the supply chain and the technical agreements, so certification could resume on a sound basis rather than on trust. From there we established a steady certification routine, confirmed the import checks for each route, and documented how decisions were made. Throughout, the person reviewing the batch records and signing the certificate was the same person the client spoke to, with no handoff to a junior team.

Outcome

Release continuity was maintained with no interruption to supply through the transition. The client moved from an urgent gap to a stable, documented model, with a clear plan for permanent cover. The engagement showed how a named, senior QP can absorb a sudden loss without the business feeling it downstream.
